At least 11 people were killed and 65 others wounded in an explosion during a rally in the Congo city of Bukavu.
The explosion occurred at a rally organized by the M23 rebels in the eastern city of Bukavu on Thursday, Reuters reported.
The leader of the rebel alliance blamed President Felix Tshisekedi for the violence.
Congo’s presidency, which accuses neighboring Rwanda of supporting the insurgents, stated on X that there had been “several” deaths and blamed “a foreign army illegally present on Congolese soil.”
However, neither side provided evidence to support their claims.
The incident has the potential to further escalate the conflict in the mineral-rich eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, which has already involved several neighboring countries.
