The Taliban’s Acting Minister for Martyrs and Disabled Affairs Mullah Abdul Majeed Akhund has appointed his grandson to a high-ranking contract-based post in the ministry, contrary to the Taliban supreme leader’s decree, Wesal TV has reliably learned.
Known as ‘Joiner Minister’ among the ministry staff, the grandson has been given full authority in the ministry in addition to his own duties.
The Administrative Affairs Department in February 2023 announced that, based on the decree of Taliban leader Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, dated 13/8/1444 AH, No. 30, officials of all ministries, departments, and independent agencies have been ordered to strictly refrain from granting positions to anyone based on kinship or personal affiliation.
The decree stated that supreme leader’s order regarding the dismissal of the sons of some officials in the Emarati institutions had been issued and had been issued and that all of them are notified dismissed.
However, a reliable source told Wisal TV that Acting Minister of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs Mullah Abdul Majeed Akhund has appointed his grandson Mullah Shabir Ahmad as the financial officer in a high level NTA project.
The source added that Mullah Shabir Ahmad, in addition to his duties, is in charge of all the affairs of the ministry, granting privileges to some and depriving others from privileges, and is known as the “junior minister” among the employees of the ministry.
According to the source, Mullah Shabir Ahmad oversees the entire ministry’s correspondence, appoints and dismisses employees according to his wishes, and has recently dismissed two directors and a commander of the ministry’s security unit.
Wesal TV has also obtained a copy of Mullah Shabir Ahmad’s contract, which was renewed in the current solar year.
The contract showed the name of Mullah Shabir Ahmad’s father as Shahid Mahmood and stated that he will be appointed as the financial manager of the new electronic system development project.
The contract states: “The contractor will be paid a monthly salary of 61,567 Afs, in accordance with the terms and conditions, in accordance with the fifth step of the NTA salary adjustment bill, for one year, in the amount of 618,804 Afs, in return for the work and services performed in accordance with the terms and conditions.”
Wesal TV also obtained another document related to this contract, which showed Mullah Bashir Ahmad’s father’s name as Mahmood and his grandfather’s name as Mullah Abdul Majid (Acting Minister of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs). The document stated that Mullah Bashir Ahmad is a resident of Kandahar City, the capital of Kandahar province.
Who is Mullah Abdul Majeed Akhund?
The Ministry of Martyres and Disabled has published the biography of Mullah Abdul MajeedAkhund on its website which stated that he was born in 1952 in the first Municipality District of Kandahar City. He lost six members of his family during the past regime.
According to sources, his son, Mullah Mahmood Salem, was killed in 2008, his brother, Mullah Abdullah, in the same year, his nephew, Bilal Ahmad, in 2012, another nephew, Samiullah, in 2016, another nephew, Rahmatullah, in 2021, and his grandson, Mohammad Yousuf, in the same year.
The information showed that Mullah Abdul Majeed Akhund and Mullah Shabir Ahmad are grandfather and grandson and both are the residents of Kandahar City, and Mullah Shabir is the son of Mullah Mohmood Salem, who was killed in 2008.
Similarly, Mullah Abdul Majeed lost his brother Abdul Wahid, and his son-in-law, MaulviMuhammad Isa in Taliban ranks during the past regime. His cousin, Mullah Habibullah was killed during Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan.
Mullah Abdul Majeed Akhund served as a member of the Military Commission of Kandahar Province during the previous government and later as the head of the Martyrs and Disabled Commission. After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, he was appointed as the acting Minister of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, and he still holds this position.
