Heavy rains and subsequent floods have killed at least 36 people, wounded 40 others and partially damaged or completed destroyed 300 residential houses across the country, the Natural Disaster Preparedness Authority (NDPA) said on Wednesday.
Since the previous night, several provinces received heavy rain and snowfall, triggering floods in some areas.
In a video message, Abdullah Jan Sayeq, NDPA spokesperson, confirmed that 240 houses were completely destroyed, while 61 others sustained partial damage.
He said at least 31 people lost their lives and 40 others were injured in the disaster across the country.
Additionally, floods inundated hundreds of acres of agricultural land, he added.
Sayeq stated that rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assist the victims. Without going into details, he assured they planned to implement natural disaster preventative projects.
According to Pajhwok Afghan News reports, most of the casualties and damage occurred in Kandahar, Helmand, and Farah provinces.
Meanwhile, former President Hamid Karzai extended condolences to the affected families on his X account, urging humanitarian organisations and businessmen to deliver assistance to the flood victims.
