At least 10 people, including the suspected assailant, have been killed as a result of an armed attack on a school in Sweden, a media report said on Wednesday.
The Voice of America (VoA) reported the attack occurred at a secondary school in the Orebro city of central Sweden.
Police said they could not be more specific about the number due to the large number of the injured. “Around 10 people have been killed today”.
Several media outlets said the suspected gunman turned his gun on himself but police would not confirm the reports, VoA added.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called Tuesday’s shooting the deadliest school attack in the country’s history.
Following the shooting, Kristersson told a news conference: “It is difficult to take in the magnitude of what has happened today.”
Some of the injured were rushed to hospital, with four undergoing operations, according to the BBC.
For security reasons, students at several nearby schools were kept indoors. “We don’t want members of the public to go there,” said the Orebro police chief.
