Germany is planning to deport a group of “convicted” Afghan nationals to Afghanistan for the second time since the re-establishment of the Taliban, according to a media report.
Reuters, citing Sueddeutsche Zeitung, reported that the German Ministry of Interior is coordinating the deportations with a regional partner. The move is expected to take place before Germany’s general election on February 23.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior confirmed that additional deportations are in the works but emphasized that these actions are not connected to the election. The deportations will occur once all necessary conditions are met.
Previously, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser described the deportations as essential for Germany’s security.
