England’s skipper, disregarding calls for a boycott, says their Champions Trophy match against Afghanistan should go ahead as planned.
Afghanistan and England are scheduled to square off in Lahore on February 26 in the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19.
In a letter to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), about 200 UK politicians urged England to boycott the match.
But England skipper Jos Buttler, according to the BBC, did not support calls for a boycott. “I don’t think a boycott is the way to go about it.”
While opposing politicisation of the sport, Butler said: “We hope to go to the Champions Trophy and play that game and have a really good tournament.”
