Snowstorm and freezing cold claimed five lives in the US and forced cancellation of over 2,300 flights in some states, reports said on Tuesday.
According to the BBC, snowstorm disrupted normal life and created chaos in some states.
At least five people died in Missouri, Kansas, Virginia and South Carolina states, officials said.
Following the declaration of emergency in seven US states, over 2,300 flights were cancelled and about 9,000 other flights were delayed due to the recent snowfall and freezing weather.
Around 200,000 people had no power early on Tuesday across states in the storm’s path.
Schools were also closed due the cold wave in Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Arkansas and New York.
Around 60 million people in the mentioned states were advised to be cautious and not to get out of their homes without urgent need.
According to official figures, such harsh climatic conditions caused $3.6 billion losses last year in the country.
