Iran plans to deport all Afghan migrants from Semnan province until the end of next solar year, media reports said on Monday.
According to MEHR News, acting security and political director of Semnan, Mahdi Agha Barari while commenting on the management of foreign nationals said: “It has been planned to collect all foreign nationals from Semnan until the end of the 1404 solar year.”
During the past few decades, non-migrant Afghan nationals had entered Iran en masse in an unplanned manner who caused various problems in the country, Barari said.
Referring to a crackdown on such aliens by the end of next year, Barari said the illegal presence of Afghan migrants has become an urgent issue to decide about.
Pointing to the imposition of restrictions on the presence of Afghan nationals in Iran, he said: “Iranian property owners have no right to cooperate with such people, if caught they will face serious legal consequences.”
More than 450 kilometers of the Iran-Afghanistan border has been walled off, as this process continues, serious attention must be paid to this issue to prevent these people from re-entering, he added.
Barari did not clarify about the exact number of Afghans in Semnan province.
Before this, Iranian officials said about five million Afghan refugees are residing in that country while three million of them lack legal documents for staying.
