US President Joe Biden says the government of Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a two-month ceasefire going into effect at 4:00am today (Wednesday).
President Biden told a press conference the truce gave the government of Lebanon control on its territories and allowed civilians of both countries to return to their homes.
The aim of the ceasefire was to put a permanent end to hostilities, the US leader said.
He added it was up to the Palestinian group Hamas to release the hostages and put an end to the war.
The ceasefire has been brokered by the US and French presidents, who asked the warring sides to stick to their commitments.
On the other hand, US president-elect Donald Trump said just as the people of Lebanon deserved security and prosperity, the Gazans also had this right — an end to the conflict and displacement.
