The Afghan ambassador in Berlin, appointed by the former government, and consul general in Bonn have resigned their jobs.
Yama Yari, the ambassador to Germany appointed by the previous administration, had stood down.
Yari said in a statement considering the political position of the host country and its request, he had decided to step down.
Yari added he had formally transfer administrative duties at the Afghan Embassy to his colleagues in accordance with diplomatic protocols.
Following his resignation, Abdul Baqi Popal, a former counselor at the embassy, will assume the role of acting ambassador.
Syed Lutfullah Sadat, Afghanistan’s consul general in Bonn, also resigned. He explained his decision was based on the need to prevent further difficulties for Afghan migrants, as well as ongoing “political considerations and restrictions imposed by the host country”.
In August, the interim government announced it would no longer recognise the credentials of Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in several European countries, including Germany, due to the lack of engagement with Kabul.
Sadat also said he had relinquished his job based on a request from the host country and did not wanted any delay in the consular activities.
The government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is yet to comment on the development.
MoFA says the services of Afghan diplomatic missions in London, Belgium, Berlin, Bonn, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Greece, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Canada and Australia are unacceptable due to the lack of coordination with Kabul.
