The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has asked UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) to assist the communities facing extreme temperatures and droughts.
“#Afghanistan is among the top 10 most vulnerable countries to climate change, despite emitting less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gases,” OCHA wrote on its X handle.
It stressed: “At #COP29, urgent action is needed to support communities facing extreme temperatures, water scarcity & drought.”
On Sunday, National Environment Protection Authority (NEPA) chief Maulvi Matiul Haq Khalis travelled to Azerbaijan at the head of a technical delegation to attend at the COP-29 conference.
The conference, beginning today in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, will conclude on November 22.
Leaders, environmental ministers and experts from many countries around the world are attending the event.
