Gulf countries have requested the United States to intervene and prevent Israel from attacking Iran’s oil facilities, expressing concerns for their own infrastructure.
Nations including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar are also denying Israel access to their airspace for any potential strikes on Iran and have communicated this stance to Washington, according to Reuters.
Following a recent missile attack by Iran, Israeli officials have warned of consequences, while Tehran has vowed that any retaliation would lead to significant destruction, raising fears of an escalated conflict in the region that could involve the United States.
In discussions this week, Iran cautioned Saudi Arabia that it could not ensure the safety of the kingdom’s oil facilities if Israel received assistance for an attack. A senior Iranian official and a diplomat confirmed this to Reuters.
Saudi analyst Ali Shihabi, close to the royal court, stated, “The Iranians have made it clear: if the Gulf states allow Israeli access to their airspace, it would be considered an act of war.”
The possibility of an Israeli strike was a key topic during talks on Wednesday between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who was touring the Gulf to garner support, according to Gulf and Iranian sources.
