Pakistan has banned the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) due to threats to national peace and security, a media report said on Sunday.
Pakistan’s interior ministry has issued a notification declaring the movement “unlawful” under Section 11B of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, Express News reported.
The move comes at a critical time when PTM Leader Manzoor Pashteen was invited by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to the upcoming Pashtun Qaumi Jirga, set to take place on October 11.
The invitation was issued during a meeting between the two leaders, where Pashteen emphasized the importance of unity among Pashtuns.
According to Pashteen, Gandapur expressed his support for the Pashtun cause and assured that the provincial government would collaborate with the jirga.
