Following a request from the host country, the embassy of Afghanistan in Oslo will be closed on September 12, officials said on Tuesday.
Earlier, Afghan Ambassador in London Zalmai Rassoul, who was appointed by the previous government, wrote on X Britain had requested the closure of Afghanistan’s embassy by September 27.
A statement from Afghanistan’s embassy in Oslo said it continued to operate over the past three years in accordance with the values of human rights, pluralism and peace, despite numerous challenges and limited resources.
As one of the most important and urgent priorities, the embassy said it had successfully provided Afghan citizens living in Norway with consular and other services in coordination with the host country.
The statement added: “The embassy would shut its operations on September 12 and submit all its tangible and non-tangible assets to the authorities of the host country so that the foreign ministry of Norway gives it back to a legitimate Afghan government.”
On July 30, the foreign ministry in Kabul had announced consular services offered by Afghan embassies in London, Belgium, Berlin, Bonn, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Greece, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Canada and Australia were no longer acceptable.
