The Pak-Afghan Liaison Committee (PALC) has called for the suspension of Temporary Admission Document (TAD) policy for truckers.
A two-month deferral of the recently-enforced travel condition would help clear the long queues of goods-laden trucks stranded on both sides of the Torkham crossing.
Businessmen made the demand at a meeting of the committee, chaired by Additional Director Transit Trade Dr. Tahir Iqbal Khattak, here on Friday.
Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) Coordinator Ziaul Haq Sarhadi highlighted the problems being faced by traders due to the implementation of TAD policy.
He noted TAD enforcement had led to a severe slowdown in Pak-Afghan trade, with a large number of cargo vehicles stranded at Torkham.
Sarhadi complained Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul was receiving more than $100 in TAD issuance fee, but the process took a long time, inflicting losses on businessmen.
As a result of delays in clearance of trucks on both sides of Durand Line, he said, bilateral trade was witnessing a decline and a switch ro Iran’s Chabahar port.
