A dozen people have been killed and more than 121 others injured in a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Kursk Region, a media report said on Tuesday.
Regional Governor Alexey Smirnov informed President Vladimir Putin via video link about the situation on the Russian border.
The injured included 10 children, according to the official, who was quoted as saying by TASS news agency: “Twelve civilians were killed and 121 injured.”
In Moscow, the Defence Ministry claims up to 1,610 Ukrainian troops have been killed, 32 tanks and 23 armoured personnel carriers destroyed since the start of hostilities in the border region.
On Monday, President Putin ruled out talks with Ukraine, saying its armed provocation on the border sought to bolster Kiev’s position.
Negotiations with a government that targetted civilians made no sense, he told a meeting on the situation on the Russian border.
“It is now clear why the Kiev regime refused our proposals to return to the plan for peaceful settlement,” Putin said. “The West is waging war against us using Ukrainians – who seek to improve their negotiating position in the future.” The Russian leader claimed.
