Afghan taekwondo player Samir Rahimi has won gold medal by defeating his Chinese opponent in the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Asia Cup Championship, the National Olympic Committee said on Saturday.
In a statement, NOC said two Afghan athletes exhibited their skills in the tournament, with Rahimi grabbing gold medal. Another Afghan player will compete today.
Eight teams from Asia are participating in the taekwondo event in the Asian Cup Championship in Onan city of China.
Afghan taekwondo player Farzad Mansouri lost to his American opponent in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday.
Taekwondo “ITF” is a martial art that is now recognized as a modern sport at the world level and its tradition and history reaches five 5,000 years.
Currently, more than 130 official member countries are active in five continents and it is approved by the highest sports authorities in the world.
