Republican presidential runner Donald Trump has congratulated Russian leader Vladimir Putin on a prisoner swap agreement with several Western countries.
Putin had sealed another great deal, the former US president told supporters in Atlanta, referring to the exchange of prisoners
Eight Russian nationals, detained/convicted in several NATO countries, as well as two minors, returned home following the prisoner swap at the Ankara’s airport, TASS reported.
US President Joe Biden says Moscow freed 16 people as part of the prisoner swap, including then Marine Paul Whelan and Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
The prisoner swap is seen as the biggest exchange since the end of the Cold War between Russia and the West.
Biden commended the role played by America’s allies, particularly Germany and Slovenia, and hailed the release of the Americans.
