Three dozen people, including five members of a family, have lost their lives in heavy rains and storms in eastern Afghanistan, officials say.
More than 230 others were wounded on Monday when fierce storms and torrential rains battered Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and several other districts.
Information and Culture Director Sediqullah Quraishi confirmed the casualties, saying the dead included five members of the same family.
The five individuals were killed when the roof of their house caved in Surkh Rod district, the official said, adding that four of their relatives were injured.
Women and children were among the casualties, who were taken to hospitals in Jalalabad and elsewhere in the province.
Around 400 houses, other properties and crops were damaged by the downpour and hail.
Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, meanwhile, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
The departments concerned had been ordered to assess the damage, help transport the injured to hospitals and arrange shelter and food for the affected people, he wrote on X.
