As part of his trip to Central Asia, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Uzbekistan today (Saturday).
On Friday, UN chief’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric told a press conference Guterres would visit Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan after a trip to Tashkent.
Guterres would meet heads of state and other senior officials of the Central Asian countries on projects related to climate change besides speaking to youth activists, Dujarric added.
Guterres has also been invited to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit (SCO) meeting, which will take place in Astana on July 4. He will deliver remarks at the SCO-Plus session.
Guterres is expected to highlight the need to reaffirm common commitment to multilateralism based on the UN Charter, international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
