The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) says more than 200 people have contracted Congo disease and six of them have lost their lives in different parts of the country over the past five months.
Dr. Sharafat Zaman, spokesman for MoPH, said in a video clip that they had registered 203 cases of Congo fever since the beginning of 2024.
He said at least six people had lost their lives to the disease. In 2023 1, 244 people had contracted this virus, which had then claimed 100 lives.
The official added MoPH was sharing information about the disease with the public from time to time in order to prevent it from spreading in the country.
According to Zaman, the disease mostly surges with the arrival of summer, especially during Eid-ul-Adha when people contact animals.
Congo cases had surged by 38 percent this year, he said, urging people to strictly follow instructions from health personnel in order to avoid contracting this disease.
In March, Dr. Fakhruddin, in charge of zoonotic diseases at MoPH, told Pajhwok Afghan News the total number of people infected with Congo fever had reached 1,238 and deaths from the disease surged to 114 in the solar year 1402.
