The BRICS foreign ministers have underlined the imperative of an urgent peaceful settlement in Afghanistan.
Stability in Afghanistan was in the interest of boosting regional security, the organisation said in a joint statement at the foreign ministerial meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
According to the statement, cited by TASS, the diplomats stressed the need for an urgent peaceful settlement in Afghanistan to strengthen regional security.
While supporting an independent, united and peaceful Afghan state free from war and drugs, the ministers urged more visible and verifiable measures in Afghanistan to ensure its territory was not used by terrorists.
Additionally, BRICS also called for the delivery of urgent and uninterrupted international humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
The ministers urged concrete steps to safeguard the fundamental rights of all Afghans, including women, girls and different ethnic groups.
For its part, the interim government has repeatedly promised that no one will be allowed to use Afghan soil for terrorist activities.
It says the rights of all people, including women, are protected in line with Islamic teachings and Afghan values.
The two-day huddle in Russia reiterated BRICS commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
