At least 10 members of a family have been killed in rain-induced floods in eastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Sunday.
Provincial Disaster Management Director Maulvi Mohammad Akram Akbari said flash floods killed the 10 individuals in Morchak village in the provincial capital Faizabad.
So far, the body of only one of the victims has been recovered from Kokcha River while a search is ongoing for the rest of the corpses.
The victims, hailing from the fourth police district of the city, included a man, his wife and their eight children, Akbari explained.
Severe rains lasting several hours also caused more financial losses to the residents of Morchak, Pasi Jan, Dara-i-Jani and Chitraq villages of provincial capital and parts of Argo district.
