Flash floods killed at least 15 people and also caused financial losses in northwestern Faryab, northern Sar-i-Pul and Baghlan provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Faryab police spokesman Maulvi Abdullah Muradi said flash floods swept through a number of villages in Lolash and Karkri districts late on Wednesday, causing life and heavy financial losses to the people.
He said at least eight people were killed in the disaster and their bodies were yet to be found.
He added the floods also washed away a number of residential houses, shops and crops on land.
Maulvi Mohammad Maroof Hashimi, an influential figure of the district, confirmed the fatalities and asked the government to assist the affected people.
Separately, at least five-member of a family were killed and dozens of homes destroyed by flash floods in Sar-i-Pul province.
Governor’s spokesman Maulvi Habib told Pajhwok Afghan News at least four women and a child, all from the same, were killed after flash floods played hahoc in Kohistanian district last night.
He said about 150 residential houses were partially damaged or completely destroyed and crops on thousands acres of land also destroyed in the disaster.
He added the governor had directed relevant agencies to assist the affected people.
Meanwhile, flash floods caused financial losses to people of Khost district of Baghlan.
Hidayatullah Hamdard, director of the Natural Disaster Management Authority, told Pajhwok flash floods hit some villages in Khost district on Thursday night.
He said hundreds of homes were damaged and 600 animals killed in the calamity.
He added the floods also caused life losses, but so far the body of a woman had been recovered.
