The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said on Wednesday it needed $14.5 million to provide emergency food and nutrition assistance for over 80,000 flood-affected people in Afghanistan.
Presenting the latest figures of flood-affected people, WFP warned the situation was likely to intensify in coming months, with a significant impact on food insecurity.
WFP said the devastating floods, which struck northeastern and northwestern Afghanistan in the past two weeks, had affected more than 80,000 people.
The UN agency added fields of wheat and vegetables had been washed away by floods.
WFP said it needed $14.5 million in cash to meet food and nutrition needs of the flood-affected people in Afghanistan.
The recent floods have caused severe financial and life losses in Baghlan, Badakhshan, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Daikundi and some other provinces of the country.
According to the figures provided by the State Ministry for Disaster Management, at least 294 people were killed, 266 more injured, 14,923 houses partially or completely destroyed and 6,655 cattle heads washed away by the rain-induced floods over the past 11 days
Earlier a number of countries and international organisations announced cash and non-cash aid for the victims of floods in the country, but Taliban authorities have requested more aid.
