At least 47 people lost their lives and a number of others sustained injuries in flash floods that inflicted heavy financial losses on people in northern Faryab province.
Mufti Ismatullah Muradi, the governor’s spokesman, said the rain-induced floods hit Balcharagh, Chehelgazi, Qaisar, Almar and Pashtunkot districts and Maimana on Saturday night.
He said dozens of houses, hundreds of acres of farmland, gardens and scores of animals were swept away by the flash floods.
He added 47 individuals lost their lives and scores of others were injured in the overnight flash floods.
Abdul Khaliq, a resident of the Qorchi locality of Balcharagh district, said their area was hit hard by the floods.
Maimana Mayor Damllah Gul Ahmad Mubashir confirmed heavy financial losses inflicted losses on people in various parts of the province.
