Former central bank governor Abdul Qadir Fitrat has passed away due to his illness in the Virginia state of the United States.
Abdul Shakur Waqif Hakimi, a former member of parliament from Badakhshan province, wrote on his Facebook page that Fitrat passed away on Sunday evening.
He added: “He (Fitrat) had been suffering from cancer for several months.”
Meanwhile, relatives also confirmed to the Voice of America that the former head of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) had died of cancer in Virginia.
Fitrat served as the central bank head from 2006-2011.
