The Pro-Republic Democratic Movement of Afghanistan (PDMA) has stressed negotiated settlement, establishment of a legitimate government in Afghanistan and urged that military and armed struggle did not produce meaningful results to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.
In a letter to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the PDMA stressed meaningful dialogue under constitutional order which could enable Afghans to live in peace with them and also with the rest of the world.
The letter drew the UN secretary general’s attention toward the need for a legitimate government in Afghanistan and said if there was no legitimate government in Afghanistan, Afghanistan would be threat to neighbours, the region and beyond.
The PDMA believed that sustainable peace could be achieved through meaningful dialogue, adherence to constitutional principles and cooperation with the international community.
The letter said that Afghans continued to face Nemours hardship, including violation of human rights and dignity and urged immediate attention of the secretary general to the inadequate amnesty granted by the current government in Afghanistan to the former government officials and workers, documented cases of inhuman treatment particularly the reports of mistreatment of women in prisons.
The letter also drew the secretary general’s attention to the denial of education and work opportunities for girls and women by the current Afghan authorities and called for the condemnation of such practices by the Islamic and Western countries.
PDMA also highlighted the rights violations of Afghans residing in Pakistan and Iran and said they faced systematic violations including killings, torture, asset confiscation and forced repatriation.
The letter urged UN to use its influence to ensure that these countries adhere to international standards and halt these atrocities.
