US President Joe Biden says his country will not participate in any offensive operations against Iran, media reports said on Sunday.
He said during a telephone conversation with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night, CNN reported.
IRNA said although Biden had emphasised support for Israel, his statement that the US would not participate in an attack on Iran was acceptable.
It said Iran’s military officials had warned the Biden administration before the attack that US involvement in the war could lead to the targeting of American bases in different locations.
Iran fired hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles in a retaliatory attack on Israel late on Saturday, fuelling concerns about a major military confrontation in the region.
Earlier in the month, at least seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members had been killed in an Israel airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
In response to an Israeli request, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is all set to hold an emergency meeting on the Iran attack.
