Eighteen Afghans were among 1,929 foreign nationals who lost their lives in work-related incidents in Turkey in 2023, a report said on Monday.
The “Workplace Homicides” report by the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG) organization said at least 1,929 deaths in work-related incidents occurred in Turkey throughout 2023.
It said 106 foreign workers included nationals from Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Russia, Egypt, Japan, Colombia, Tajikistan, Romania, Nigeria and Sudan.
The victims included 22 children under 14 years of age and 147 women also lost their lives during occupational incidents.
They died due to traffic accidents, falling from a height, coming under the rubble, violence in workplace, gas suffocation, burn, poisoning, drowning and suicide.
Most of the deaths occurred in construction sector followed by agriculture, transportation, commercial, administrative and educational sectors. They included municipal workers, social services providers and miners.
