Iran has deported 13,852 illegal Afghan refugees over the past 10 days, Iranian police confirmed on Monday.
The Khorasan Razavi province border guard commander said: “Illegal Afghan refugees have been forcibly sent back to Afghanistan via Dogharoon border terminal”.
IRNA quoted Sardar Majid Shuja as saying the Afghans after being found living illegally in Iran were handed over to Afghan authorities.
In the past nine months, 520,000 illegal Afghan refugees had been expelled from Iran via Dogharoon, he added.
