The Biden administration’s top diplomat has opposed forcing Palestinians into exiting Gaza, reports the BBC.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed Palestinians must be allowed to return to their homes once conditions improved.
During his visit to Qatar, Blinken denounced statements from some Israeli ministers regarding the resettlement of Palestinians elsewhere.
The Hamas-run health ministry says more than 22,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza. Over the past 24 hours, 113 deaths have resulted from Israeli bombardment.
Blinken said: “Palestinian civilians must be able to return home as soon as conditions allow. They cannot, they must not, be pressed to leave Gaza.”
World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said over 600 patients and health workers were forced to quit Al-Aqsa Hospital.
In a bid to prevent the war spreading, Blinken arrived in Qatar after stops in Jordan, Turkey and Greece. He is due to arrive in Saudi Arabia today (Monday).
