The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered a halt to gur (jaggery) exports to neighbouring Afghanistan.
While directing the Customs Department to enforce the Export Policy Order of 2022, the court sought from it comments within a fortnight.
Muttahida Enterprises, a private company, has petitioned PHC against the authorities’ refusal to let it export jiggery to Afghanistan.
The company claimed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was authorising Punjab-based firms to export the commodity.
However, the petitioner said, it was denied the facility on the ground that jiggery exports were not allowed under the Export Policy Order of 2022.
The company prayed the court to order respondents, including the Customs collectors (appraisement and enforcement) to let it export the product to Afghanistan.
