Bangladesh has defeated Afghanistan by two wickets in the thrilling first of the two-match T20 international series at the Sylhet international Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Mohammad Nabi’s brilliant 54 runs, scored 154 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs after Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasn won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Down to 64 for 4 in a chase of 155, Bangladesh owed their turnaround to Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain, whose 73-run stand put them in a comfortable position, according to ESPN Cricinfo.
But with two needed off the last five balls, pacer Karim Janat took a hat-trick to keep Afghanistan in the game with Hridoy stuck at the non-striker’s end. Shoriful Islam, at No.10, then took Bangladesh home with a cracking cut shot for four.
Towhid Hridoy hit 47 off 32 with three boundaries and two over-boundaries. Shamim Hossain scored 33 off 25 with four boundaries.
Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Kumer Das bagged 19 runs and 18 runs respectively. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 14 runs while Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged 8 runs.
Bangladesh managed to score 157 runs by losing eight wickets with remaining a ball left.
