Two Afghan nationals identified as Mohammad Ramez Rashidi and Naeem Hasemi Qatali were publicly hanged in Iran on Saturday over a deadly attack on a Shiite shrine in October.
The attack on Shah Cheragh Shrine in the southern city of Shiraz killed at least 13 people.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the two men were hanged to death before sunrise in the street near the attack site.
Radio Farda of Iran said the attack on Shah Cheragh shrine took place in October last year, in which 13 people were killed and 20 others were injured.
Based on reports, the Islamic State of Daesh group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Radio Farda also said Iranian Human Rights Organization yesterday said that “the verdicts issued for the two persons (Mohammad Ramez Rashidi and Naeem Hashem Qatali) have no legal validity” and were based on “forced confessions”.
Mahmoud Amiri Moghadam, director of Iran Human Rights Organization, said: “These two Afghan citizens have been sentenced to death after an extremely unfair trial without any evidence of their guilt.”
