A drug addict at a rehabilitation centre in the capital Kabul has meticulously calligraphed the Holy Quran, an official said on Thursday.
Muhajir Farahi, spokesman for the Ministry of Information and Culture, tweeted that a drug addict in at a rehab in Kabul had written the entire holy book in a beautiful calligraphic style.
“Later on, we will release details of the task. We will give him (the calligrapher) a job and drawn on his talent,” the spokesman wrote.
Over the past two decades, about 3.5 million people in Afghanistan have slipped into drug addiction.
Figures from the Counter-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior suggest about 85,000 drug addicts (7,000 in Kabul) have been rounded up across the country since the Islamic Emirate’s takeover in 2021.
